MWC 2022: Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge – we already know almost everything!
The first day of March is a time of hot mobile launches. All because of Mobile World Congress 2022. For many weeks, the whole industry has been wondering about the appearance and specifications of the latest flagships from Samsung – we are talking, of course, about the Galaxy S6 and a new variant of this model, the Galaxy S6 Edge.
We are already after the official conference of the Korean giant. Therefore, it's time to reveal all the cards – I invite you to read on.
Galaxy S6 – a new opening?
Samsung has not had a very good run in recent months. From time to time there have been reports of poor financial results of the company, which for several years has divided and ruled the mobile technology market. However, the ace up this manufacturer's sleeve is the annual launch of a smartphone from the Galaxy family. This year Samsung was expected to show two versions of the new Galaxy S6, as we know from numerous rumors. In addition to the standard "eska", the release of a variant with curved edges of the display was expected.
It had already been known for several weeks that these rumors were true, but it was only yesterday that we were able to fully see the results of the Korean conglomerate's engineers' work. Here they are:
Quality first and foremost
Samsung's smartphones have for years been associated with plastic, tacky design, and to some even cheapness. The manufacturer has decided to put an end to this, so the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are made of metal and glass. This combination gives the hardware an exclusive look.
Unfortunately, it was not without compromises. Samsung's new flagships do not have a microSD card slot and removable battery. For existing fans of the family, such a solution could be a serious step backward. Admittedly, these models will be sold in versions with 32, 64 and 128 GB of built in memory, but probably many people will think twice before swapping their "eska" for the latest version. I personally am puzzled by the strength of the glass used.
The manufacturer has decided to use the fourth version of the popular Gorilla Glass From Corning. My experience with Gorilla Glass 4 (on the Note 4) does not lead me to believe that this glass can withstand a fall from a greater height. Well, the plastic flap can always be replaced, while the cracked glass will involve a rather expensive service repair.
If we are already talking about the issue of design, it is worth mentioning the similarity of the "flat" S6 to the latest Apple iPhone’s model. The similarities are particularly striking with the metal frame. The design of the rounded S6 Edge, on the other hand, is a whole new quality, as highlighted by many commentators.
The new-old king of performance?
Samsung's next flagships usually deliver uncompromising performance. However, very good technical specifications have not always ensured fast phones. Why? The blame was primarily placed on Samsung's graphics overlay, TouchWiz. It was supposed to be sluggish, overloaded with unnecessary features.
The new Galaxy S bring variety in this aspect as well, as they are equipped with a slightly A simplified and slimmed-down version of TouchWiz. Of course, the overlay modifies the latest Android version 5.0.
In terms of components used – no change. Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are this year's Samsung flagships, so the components installed are top-of-the-line. It is worth bearing in mind that the Korean manufacturer has abandoned Qualcom processors. For this reason, we will not find the company's SoC in the smartphones in question (these are the Snapdragon 810 units, known from the LG G Flex 2 and most likely the HTC One M9 and Sony Xpieria Z4 ). So what chip will be the heart for the new Galaxy? Of course, the proprietary, 64-bit Exynos, equipped with 8 cores And made with the new 14-nanometer technological process.
As a result, the S6 is expected to be 20% faster than the Galaxy Note 4, while being more energy efficient (by 35%). The processor supports 3 GB of RAM DDR4 type.
An extremely important part of the specification is the screen of the smartphone. Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have a display With a diagonal of 5.1 inches (Super AMOLED), exactly the same as the S5. On the other hand, the resolution of the displayed image has increased and is 1440 x 2560 pixels (similar to the Note 4).
Same screen size allowed to keep the compact size of the "S" line. The whole thing is complemented by 16-megapixel main camera (with optical image stabilization) and a 5-megapixel front camera. Unfortunately, the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are not woodproof, Which I consider to be quite a disadvantage, especially in view of the lack of a microSD card slot and removable battery.
In addition to the standard technologies (A-GPS, WiFi, BT), the specifications of the new Galaxy S closes heart rate monitor, reader fingerprint, infrared port and battery with a capacity of just 2550 mAh (Galaxy S5 cell for comparison: 2800 mAh).
