The year 2022 in a nutshell – mobile summary
The end of the year is a time to take stock. With the arrival of 2022, there was a lot of talk about wearables, which were supposed to be the center of mobile events of the year just ending. In the category of „mobile” however, predictions very rarely come true – 2022 was quite diverse and brought with it several interesting launches, updates and events.

January 2022
The year began with Lenovo’s acquisition of Motorola for $2.91 billion. CES, or the Consumer Electronics Show, was also held in January as is standard. Presented on them m.In. New devices in the wearables category, as well as smartphones and tablets, m.in. Samsung Galaxy NotePRO or Sony Xperia Z1 Compact.
January also saw the third edition of the Mobile Trends Conference, which also presented the Mobile Trends Awards for the best mobile solutions of the past year.
February 2022
In February, Facebook added to its ranks by purchasing WhatsApp for $19 billion. This month also saw the Mobile World Congress, which featured one of the biggest launches of the year. The light of day saw the Samsung Galaxy S5, as well as the company’s wearables.
The Sony Xperia Z2 was also premiered, as well as the first Nokias with Android.
March 2022
In March, Apple released a new update for its devices – iOS 7.1. Among other things, the operating system has been enhanced with CarPlay, which allows you to integrate your car with the iPhone’s. Google took its maps to a new level, preparing maps for indoor – Indoor Maps to facilitate m.in. moving inside shopping malls.
Google also unveiled Android Wear, dedicated specifically to wearables devices.
April 2022
In April, Lidl rolled out a new mobile system for its stores, supplying all managers with Limo tablets designed to streamline store management. Amazon and Samsung have partnered, providing free e-books for users of Galaxy series devices. Facebook crossed the threshold of 1 billion mobile users. There was also a final decision, renaming Nokia to Microsoft Mobile. This month also saw the release of an update to the Windows Phone 8 operating system.1.
One of the biggest news turned out to be a new assistant, along the lines of apple’s Siri – Cortana.
May 2022
June 2022
June was full of corporate events by two giants – Apple and Google. First there was Apple Worldwide Developer’s Conference. The event showcased m.in.
Apple’s new programming language – Swift. There were also the first announcements of the news that the new version of iOS 8 was to bring. During Google I/O 2022, the multidimensionality of Android – Android Wear, Android Auto and Android TV were presented. There were also announcements of the new Android L and the associated redesign –Material Design.
Amazon released its first Fire smartphone, and the Yo app broke records for popularity around the world!.
July 2022
July saw some rather unusual smartphone launches. Samsung has unveiled 4 new low-budget Galaxy series phones, specifically aimed at less affluent users. BlackBerry unveiled Passport, its square smartphone.
Also unveiled the first two watches running on Android Wear – Samsung Gear Live and LG G Watch. There was also a new version of the Google Play store, the changes of which mainly consisted of adapting its appearance to the new Material Design. At the end of July, it made headlines because of the „eat apples” campaign, which also echoed in the mobile world.
August 2022
The launch in Poland was announced by Uber, about which there was a lot of buzz basically all year around the world. Amazon has introduced its own credit card reader, which, when connected to e.g. The tablet allowed small and micro businesses to make transactions quickly and easily.
Nokia surprised by launching a new phone – the Nokia 130, which is „an ordinary” phone.
September 2022
In September, Apple partnered with American Express, Visa and MasterCard. The establishment of this partnership resulted in the introduction of Apple Pay – a new contactless payment system. The big premiere of the month turned out to be the new iPhone, in fact iPhone’y 6. There was also the premiere of the long-awaited smartwatch – Apple Watch. IFA 2022 was also held in September.
The m.In. Samsung Galaxy Note 4, as well as the Galaxy Gear S, which is a new smartwatch, as well as the Samsung Gear VR – the first virtual reality helmet from Samsung. Also, Sony unveiled the new Sony Xperia Z3 smartphone.
September also saw the 2022 Internet Beta conference.
October 2022
The biggest event of the month was the release of a new version of the Android operating system – Android 5.0 Lollipop. This is one of the biggest updates in the history of Android, which brought with it a new design, as well as many other improvements. Google also unveiled a new email application – Inbox, which is distinguished by m.in. automatic categorization of messages, as well as support for accounts outside gmail.com.
In October, the Interior Ministry also released its „My Command” app, which proves that our Government is mindful of mobile solutions. The Smarties 2022 global awards for the best mobile marketing campaigns were also presented.
November 2022
November saw the premiere of the first smartphone from under the Microsoft banner – Lumia 535. It simultaneously ended the Nokia Lumia era. Snapchat unveiled a new mobile payment system – Snapcash to make it easier to exchange money between friends. Shazam in turn introduced new m-marketing solutions for shopping malls, taking mobile marketing to a slightly higher, more interactive level.
Microsoft accidentally released information about the purchase of Acompli – mail application. So far the news has not been confirmed.
